by stray and/or feral dogs running loose and hunting at night.  Several
pet cats were injured and killed.  A group of neighbors came together
and alerted the neighborhood and tracked the strays to their home base
where the Constable and SPCA trapped them.  All together fourteen
dogs were rounded up and the SPCA was able to adopt them all to good
families.
Death of a pet is never easy, but for families who have lost a pet due to
a sudden and violent death, the grief is especially traumatic.  This month
I want to honor all the pets of Garden Oaks that have been injured or
killed by loose dogs.  These pets were cherished family members and
will be missed.  I pray there will come a time when the good memories
will outweigh the pain of their death.  The Pet of the Month sign will be
put at the Gazebo Park in honor of all dog attack victims.

“Not to hurt our humble brethren (the animals) is our first duty to them,
but to stop there is not enough.  We have a higher mission:  to be of
service to them whenever they require it.”    Francis of Assisi
