Pet of the Month:

Our Pet of the Month family is the Shamblen’s from Section III.
David, Carrie, and little Morgan Shamblen share their home with their
two big dogs, Hogan (Bull Mastiff) and Ellie Mae (Redbone Coon
Hound.)  Bull Mastiff’s are very large dogs but are docile and
affectionate.  They are natural guardians but do not bark much and
surprisingly they don’t need a lot of exercise.  Ellie Mae's breed is the
ultimate hunting dog as the Redbone Coon Hound can hunt anywhere;
in woods, mountains or water.  They are known for their “drawling”
bark or bay.  This breed is known to be stubborn but sensitive and
this is the dog that was featured in the famous book "Where the Red
Fern Grows.”  They are both five years old.
When Morgan was born, both Hogan and Ellie Mae had a hard time
adjusting.  The first week whenever Morgan cried Hogan would cry.
Now Hogan and Ellie Mae are both overweight because Morgan loves
to give them cookies all the time.
Hogan really loves to sniff and chase possums and squirrels while Ellie
Mae, the "hunting dog," doesn't even notice them.  She is always
hungry and just wants to be inside out of the heat.  Their favorite
treat is a KONG with goodies stuffed inside.  Both dogs are family
oriented and love affection.  The best thing about big dogs is the big
hugs they give so the Shamblen family is doubly blessed!
