Sydney Blues Farris (October 31, 1988 – March 6, 2006) Michael and I said goodbye to our beloved Sydney on a Monday afternoon in March. He died peacefully in his own bed, in our arms, with a smile on his face and a belly full of chicken and dumplings. He lived a long, happy life and he was ready to go to heaven. Many of you got to know him over the years and some of you knew him as that “black dog on Gardenia.” After his death, Michael put a cross in the front yard near Sydney’s favorite spot and many friends and neighbors put flowers and cards at the cross. It was a beautiful and awesome sight. It is proof positive that animals can and do touch many lives. We are not owners to our pets, we are family. It was an honor and a privilege to be Sydney’s family. Casey and Michael Farris Whether your pet dies, is lost or stolen, or must be placed in a new home, the end of that relationship can be devastating and one of the most difficult times of your life. The loss of a pet is painful, it is personal, and it is very real. When your pet dies you should expect feelings of profound loss, grief and bereavement. Grief is natural and appropriate and not unusual. To many people their pet is their best friend – perhaps their only friend. If you or someone you know has lost a pet or needs help with pre-death decision making please be aware that we offer a free class once a month on pet loss and euthanasia. |
